Camping at Nisqually

Still having issues uploading pictures, but it seems that I can do it if I do a slideshow...not my favorite since I can't comment on each one, but it's better than nothing.

I have been dying to go camping this year. Growing up in a big family, we did it a lot, especially when traveling, to cut down on costs. I love campfire dinners, sleeping outside..well...in a tent..., no distractions, coming up with your own entertainment, etc. I LOVE IT! I thought we would camp a lot this summer since we would have to wait for Dan's license before he could start working.

So, while at his parent's house, we decided to just go. Dan's sister Melissa joined us, and we had lots of fun!

"A" Frames and are located throughout the campground. There are three levels in each one. We all slept at the top. It was really nice not to have to set up our tent and take it down, just for one night's stay. We found these little frogs hopping all over the place in a grassy field. We had fun trying to capture them. We also found a rope's course..and although we didn't know what to do on most of them, we still had fun playing!

Overheard at our house....

Setting: K, this will get complicated, but hopefully I can word it so you understand. Chelsea and Michael are sitting in little chairs, watching Super Why on PBS. If you're not familiar with the show, it's about a group of friends that find letters to make a word to solve a mystery. I am fixing Chelsea's hair. Also, important to note, we have been trying to potty train Michael for quite a while...

TV: "What? Did you find the rest of our mystery letters?"
Michael: "Q! T! L!" (Just random letters he is calling out)
Chelsea: "No Michael, It's U, P!"
Michael: Looks crossly at Chelsea "No, Me not Pee!"
Chelsea: starts to giggle..."No, Michael, U! P!"
Michael: geting very angry "No Sess! (His word for Chelse) I a big boy! I NOT PEE!"

Brief Update

Our computer is having issues uploading the pictures to blogger, and I simply can't post without pictures, so that's why I have been dragging my feet in the posting department. I've got a few other things left to try, but this blog may be pictureless for a few months.

We have been enjoying exploring our new city and love the weather! We moved in on the hottest day of the whole year...it was 105 degrees! Since that weekend, it's barely gotten into the 90's. It's always sunny (though it did rain once), and we've experienced a few windy days...but they aren't too bad. There are miles and miles of paved trails that we like to go for walks on. Chelsea is learning to ride her bike without training wheels, so it's great practice for her.

Dan is STILL waiting for his license. It's been extremely frustrating that it is taking so long, but hopefully it will be here by the end of next week, and he can finally start working. Although he is not getting paid, he still goes in 3 times a week to the office to observe and ask questions, and to get to know the staff better. We love having Dan around, but it would be nice to start receiving an income! :) Then we could get a computer and I could post pictures again!

Our Little Pyro

Since Dan burned his leg a year ago in April, Chelsea has been very nervous around fires. Michael, on the other hand, loves them.

LOVES them.

Okay, really, he's obsessed by them.

Grandma and Grandpa Perry have a fire pit, and Michael would ask almost daily to have a fire while we lived there. Unfortunately, our new house does not have fire pit, so Michael has had to improvise. This is a common site at our house

The "wood" can be made of pretty much anything...Chelsea's dolly, dad's tools, wall decor, etc..... and ALWAYS paper to help get the fire going.

"Mom, I woasting Suhmores!"

"Uh Oh! I got fire on my mashmallow! Dat not good!"

"Mooooom! No more camer!"

Overheard at our house....

Setting: Bathing Chelsea and Michael, haveing a nice conversation about the days events, when all of a sudden....

Chelsea: MOM!
Mom: (startled) what!?
Chelsea: Michael needs to get out NOW! I just felt his toes and they're REALLY raisiny!

We're here!!!

We finally made it! We moved in on one of the hottest days of the year. I think the temps reached 105 or 107, but lucky for us, we have AIR CONDITIONING! WOOHOO! It's amazing how a cool house can make the heat outside bearable! Dan's parents and sister drove down with us to help us unpack. I'm so grateful they did! I don't know how we would have done it with the kids all over the place and the heavy furniture. I like to consider myself as buff...but our couch is pretty heavy...and there's no way I could lifted a washing machine!

Anyway, our house is awesome! We love the space and the fact that we are no longer connected to another person's dwelling. Yes, our kids can scream as loud as they want and I am not having a panic attack that we will get kicked out. Chelsea and Michael have their own rooms now. Chelsea has been very teretorial about her room, and gets very upset if Michael comes in without her permission. Yeah, we'll be working on that one. I did laundry and was able to let the dryer go....WHILE I SLEPT! No worries about someone getting into my laundry or if someone is waiting for my load to be done. It's AWESOME!

We're pretty much unpacked, but have the pictures left to hang on the wall. I am having stress trying to figure that one out...

As for the kids, they are doing great and love all the new space to play in. Our yard is completely locked in, so I can let them out the back patio door and not worry about them running down the street. Because it has been so hot here, Dan improvised a swimming pool for them.

However, today we upgraded to a real pool. Kinda. It's big enough that I'll probably get in it.

I have oodles of pictures and things to write about from our trip and other things, but I'll try to it slowly so neither of us get burned out!

Overheard in the car.....

Setting: Returning home from going out to eat with Grandma and Grandpa. Mom is sitting between the carseats in the back seat of the van. We are discussing why we can't see the sun at night

chelsea: Is the sun super far away mom?
Mom: Yup, really far away.
Chelsea: Far, FAR away? Like in Idaho?

P.S. The next post will be from our house! WAHOO!

Lehi Roller Mills tour

When I was at my brother's house, I took adavantage of his computer and tried to upload pictures so I could post them while we were in transition between homes. Anyway, here is one of those posts...

I have some sweet hook-ups. My good friend and roommate from college, Katie, was nice enough to take me on a tour of the Lehi Roller Mills, where she works. Her Dad is the current owner, and the mill has been in the family since it was first built. This is a picture of her family. While in college, I was invited several times to their home, and instantly fell in love with her family. I had a picture of Katie showing me one of the machines, but I won't embarass her by posting it here. I'm fascinated with anything old and historic, especially buildings, so I was so excited when she let my family take a tour. It was fun to see some of the original machinery still in use, like these "elevators" used to carry flour to the upper levels.

This is a cool machine that they use to inspect every load of wheat that is brought to the mill. They have to inspect it for a certain amount of protein and moisture before they will accept it. What Quality! ;)

. she also showed me the spot where Kevin Bacon stood in his role of "Foot Loose". We also got to wear the cool lunch lady hats! At first Michael didn't care for it, but by the end, he didn't want to take it off.

I loved the store part. It felt like an old fashioned mill store. We had to buy a few mixes to try.

Thanks Katie!

Overheard at our house...

My sister does this on her blog and I think it's awesome, so I'm just going to copy....

Setting: Making cookies at Grandma's house with Chelsea and Michael licking beaters.

Mom: Guess what guys? It's almost time to move to our new house!
Chelsea: Can I ride in the truck with daddy?
Mom: Probably.
Chelsea: We had so much fun!
Mom: Really? What did you do?
Chelsea: Ate lots of nummies...played with toys...well, I did. Not daddy. He had to drive. My favorite part was eating nummies.
Michael: Um...my favorite part...um....I pick my nose!
Mom: (Doubled over the sink, laughing.)

What a boy!:)

Brain Fart.

Ever had one of these? (Sorry if it's offensive...I tned to say that alot on this blog....maybe I should have it restricted or something....)

I mean, have you ever been writing something, and suddenly, an every day word looks really wierd to you? Or you say a word and it sounds completely foreign to you, like a different language?

For example, I was helping Chelsea write her Thank you cards, and we were writing the phrase "...lots of fun." I would tell her the letters to write and she would write them. When I got to "of" I couldnt' remember if it was even a word. Of. shouldn't it be spelled ove? or uv? no, those definitly aren't right. Maybe it's not even a word...AHH!

I suppose I could have opened any old book lying around, like "Breaking Dawn" and figrured it out, but, like I said, I was having a brain fart.

My brain started to go crazy, so I went to ask my genius husband, but I should have known he was just going to give me a hard time. He said
"Of"? like he'd never heard the word before.
"You mean like O-F-F?"
"No, like 'lots of fun. HOw do you spell 'of'?!"
He just sat there looking at me. Already feeling stupid, I just wanted to smack him.

Does this ever happen to you? (Not the husband making you feel like a dork part, but the English language playing tricks on your brain?)

while we stall....

We have oodles of pictures to post, but won't get them up until we move....

so, in the mean time, here's something I thought was funny.

We went swimming the other day and Dan was tossing Michael into the air. When Michael came down, he got mad at his dad and said:

"DAD! Don't trow me! I not a ball!!"

A Place to call home...

The search is over...for a few months at least. We finally found the place we will call home for at least the next year. It's a 3 bed 2 bath with a beautifully landscaped yard. We, well, mainly me, are VERY excited to be done with living in apartments, although we will still be renting. I can't go to sleep at night, as I rearrange furniture and unpack things in my head. AHHH! (Can you tell I'm excited!)

Because this is an open blog, I won't be posting the address. An e-mail will be sent after we move. We get the keys on August 16th, just 10 days before I send my baby off to kindergarten. (sob!) Actually, I'm more sad that Michael will be losing his playmate for half the day. We'll have to make things extra fun...but that's a post for later....

It's a great location and we even get to attend the church right by the temple! How holy are we?! (Just kidding...please don't take offense...) Isn't it beautiful? It's a mini one and I'm so glad it's so close. Now, let's just keep our fingers crossed that the ward is crammed full of eager babysitters! :)
