Our ward recently had a talent show. Chelsea's been practicing the piano for a while now, but I feel it is important to get performing experience. I thought the talent show would be a perfect place for her to play. We decided on two of her favorite songs and have been practicing them every day for several weeks, in preparation of the talent show. I was not able to attend, so Dan took the two kids and video taped it for me. It gets a little shaky at one point, probably when he had to wrestle Michael, but he did a great job. She played "Do you know the Muffin Man" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."
After viewing the video, I asked Dan if she was nervous. He said he asked her the same thing when she was done and her reply was:
"No, daddy. It kinda felt like when I play with boys."
Uh oh.
What does that mean!? does she get twitterpated already?! Hmm.....
I'm so proud of her for getting up there. She did a great job, although she made quite a few more stumbles than when she played at home. But that's why I think it's important to play in front of people. But for now...it's time to go buy the THIRD book in the piano series she's working on. She's progressing much faster than I expected. Before long, there will be someone else to play the piano for ward functions. :)

Chelsea's tap recital
Remember this?
This was the tap recital from last year.
Notice her height compared to the other girls. She was one of the youngest in her class.
We decided to wait a little while before enrolling her in a tap class again, and felt it was time this spring. She LOVES tap. This time, she was one of the oldest, and tallest girls in her class. She loved to practice and would often do so while I made dinner.
This is from this year's recital: Now notice the height compared to the other girls. :) She's definitely grown up!
Both her Grandma's and Grandpa's missed the recital by a few days when they came down for Dan's graduation. so I promised to video tape it and post it....even though it's a month later. :) She did give them a personal performance in our kitchen, though.
She can't wait to take tap lessons again, so hopefully there's some good teachers where we end up! Here are some more pictures of her in her cute outfit with her class.

It's an early birthday goodbye pretend sleepover party
We decided to celebrate Chelsea's birthday early so that she could celebrate it with her friends. She has made some really fun friends here that we are really going to miss. We talked about what she wanted to do at her tap dance rehearsal (yes, that blog is still coming) and she wanted to have a sleepover. I told her she was still a little too young, so we compromised on a pretend sleepover. I was so proud of my "creative" idea, until looking for ideas on the Internet, and realized, that it is quite the popular birthday idea for young girls. Oh well. :)
Chelsea really wanted to have matching pajamas, and since I haven't sewn in a long time, I got really excited about making them myself. I figured I could use a %40 off coupon for the fabric at Joann's and make a simple nightgown. Well, all I have to say is that I've definitely had my sewing kick to last me for some time now.
I was really excited when I finally finished the last gown. As I was hanging them all up for a photo op, I discovered this little gem:

I sewed the sleeve upside down! I was so mad! The sleeves were the hardest part for me! Luckily, my handsome husband was there! Dan helped out quite a bit by putting the elastic in the sleeves, and he unpicked this one, so it wasn't too bad to fix. What a champ!
We dropped the nightgowns off the day before, so the girls could wear them to the party. They looked so cute! The neck of the nightgown was a little too big and kept revealing the shoulders of the girls...as you will see in several of the next pics.
When they arrived, we had them work on decorating picture frames, and then took each girl aside to take a picture with Chelsea. They turned out very cute, thanks again to Dan, who got the pictures uploaded, printed, cut out, and assembled back in the frames before it was time to go.
We played some games, like wrapping up two girls with toilet paper to look like mummies (they loved that one). Then we set up the blow-up mattress so they could lounge on it and watch a movie and eat popcorn, while I took each girl aside to paint their fingernails. Then we had lunch and cake and ice-cream.
The girls were all fantastic and made it so much fun. While they were eating, I asked them if they wanted to give Chelsea a birthday wish. (I have it on camera, but I think we've already packed up the cords to transfer them to the computer.) Most of them said "I wish that Chelsea would stay" or "I wish Chelsea didn't have to move". They are the sweetest girls. I know Chelsea will miss them, but I'll miss them too!
And how did Michael do at this all girl, very feminine birthday party? Well, he kept tackling the girls, or hugging them, but he did want his fingernails painted. There wasn't enough room for him at our tiny table, so the poor guy was doomed to the floor. I don't think he mind though...as long as he had food, he was happy.

Children's Museum
During my parents visit, it rained, and rained, and rained! The one sunny day we had, I had reserved the cultural pass to the children's museum. I knew the kids would be disapointed if we skipped out on that, so we decided to go anyway. As usual, they had a blast.
My favorite part is the water exhibit. Chelsea and Michael like to take buckets of water to and from each station, while the other kids are content to just play with the toys in the water.
chelsea was really excited to go to the clay room, and I think mom and Dad enjoyed it a little bit, too.
Dad made a sculpture of himself! Very impressive!

Michael really likes the grocery store. He repeatedly filled up his cart and took it to the checkout stand, where he proceded to check out his own groceries. Grandpa would then put everything back, and they would do it all over again. The next day, Grandpa took the kids for a walk and they ended up at the grocery store. When he walked in with bags full of groceries and exhaustion on his face, I knew he had experienced what I experience when I take the kids. Our grocery store across the street has mini carts for kids to push around, just like the children's museum.

Graduation Banquet
Every year, the graduating Seniors have a special gradution banquet. Each year, they are asked to pay "dues"which goes towards this banquet.
You don't want to know HOW much we paid to go to this graduation banquet for Dan, but you should know, that we had a great time.
The food was really good. I especially loved the garlic pasta dish. YUM!
My mom helped me find a black dress for the event, and I even got new strappy black heels, so it was really fun to get all dressed up.
But more importantly than the food, or getting dressed up, was the chance to say good bye to all the friends we have made during the last four years. I wasn't able to get a picture of all of them, but here are a few of the wonderful people we have gotten to know.
Brit and Kelsey Peterson. Chelsea went to Brit's home daycare during our first and part of the second year while I worked as a substitute. When I first met Brit, she was a newly wed. Now, she has two beautiful little girls. They have gone on to orthodontic school in AZ.
Dan and Dan. These two played basketball together for all four years. IT was particularly frustrating for me, because they both look so much alike AND have the same name! When they both have fresh haircuts, it is almost impossible to tell them apart from the back. Luckily for me, I could just cheer "Go Dan!" and I would be okay. This last year they had dental chairs next to each other, so I got to see even more of Dan during my many trips to the dentist these last few months.
Sam and Andrea Page. During the freshman year, I would walk with Brit and
andrea along the path by the dental school. Dan and Sam worked out at the gym together several times.
Melinda & Russell Searle have been in our ward with us all four years. Last year, Melinda was hired by the same apartment management company that I work for, so we have traded much babysitting to attend various meetings, called each other to ask questions and vent about the various aspects of managing, and our kids love to play with each other. In fact, our girls have the same name! They are headed off to Georgia for at least the next year.
I wish I had gotten more pictures of the other couples we have gotten to know, but we were all having such a good time, I barely even got these!
AFter the dinner, slide show, and awards, they had a dance. Dan is not into dancing so much, so I think I am more self conscious about it since being married to him. I still like to dance, but it's harder for me to dance with a group of people I don't really know. Russell was dying to get out on the dance floor, but couldn't find anyone to go with him. When he did make it out to the dance, I saw another side of him, I've never seen before. That man likes to dance! Hopefully

I too eventualy made it out to the dance floor, and Dan was such a good sport, he came along. Or maybe it was just to take a picture of me making a fool of myself. (And the sad thing...the punch was NOt spiked) Oh well, I had fun. I will miss everyone and will be excited to hear of their future adventures.

Nephew number THIRTEEN!
YAY!
My lil' sister finally had her baby this morning at 2:30 AM. He was only 2 days late, but he missed seeing his Grandma and Grandpa Hadfield who left the previous morning. Apparently, it was a super fast delivery and it has been said that Tawna "squirted him out." 30 minutes after ARRIVING at the hospital, 3 quick pushes, and presto, he is finally here! :)
I LOVE his hair!!!!
He has been a mystery baby for 9 months, due to his stubborness at the ultrasounds by crossing his legs. I think he might be handful. His older brother will whip him into shape. Aren't they a cute family?!
