Something I think about...

I'm always fascinated not just what other people do in their daily lives, but things they think about. So, I introduce you to my new segment

"Something I think about..."

Ya know, like the "Overheard at our house..."?

Anyway, I am so grateful that I have the blessing of enjoying all five of my senses. I love seeing the beauty of fall colors in the trees, I love hearing the laughter of my kids (not so much the fighting....), I love the feel of kissing my babies' cheeks, I love the taste of so many good foods, like the apple pie my kids and I made, but today, I'm fascinated by smell.

I think it's so interesting how a smell can instantly link you to a memory. For example, grapefruit.

I see grapefruit all the time, and even the texture of it doesn't trigger any thoughts. But the second I slice through the peel and the aroma hits my nose, I'm instantly taken back to over 20 years ago (Holy cow, that statement made me feel old) to my Grandpa Spong's house. This may or may not be true (I was only 7) but I remember eating cream of wheat and grapefruit for breakfast whenever we would visit. He died a long time ago, but whenever I smell a grapefuit, I remember that amazing man that I miss so much. I could do a whole BLOG on the memories of him....but anyway...

I LOVE the taste and smell of grapefuit.

My next smell-memory: Hairspray.

Today, after finishing my hair, I sprayed it with a Suave hairspray.
We usually go for the cheapest stuff, and I don't pay attention to if it's "super hold" or "max hold" or whatever. Well, we opened a new can today, I sprayed it on my hair, and WHAM! This particular hairspray scent takes me back in time again.

This time, I'm standing in my mom's bathroom as she does my hair for school. I'm sure my mom used a variety of hairsprays as well, but for some reason, this is the scent that reminds me of that memory.

Does this happen to any of you?
